It's Time for Project 21! PDF Print E-mail

p21.jpgIt has been said that after 21 days of solid repetition, we can create habits around what we desire.

Therefore, beginning November 1st, we, the brothers of Gamma Phi Delta, will dedicate ourselves to healthy living. We will embrace a health routine that has been proven to reduce one’s chances of contracting diabetes, prostate cancer, obesity, heart disease, and many other fatal/debilitating illnesses.

Besides the obvious health benefits, we are doing this so as to challenge the status quo. As college students, we are oftentimes bombarded with health suggestions that we plan to live by, but never seem to get the chance to use. Moreover, as African Americans, we are consistently told that we are at a higher risk than other ethnic groups for getting a number of fatal diseases. Yet, we never seem to fight these claims nor improve our health condition! Well, the brothers of Gamma Phi Delta have chosen to take a stand against these statistics, and finally live by those suggestions.

Here are a few of those healthy guidelines of Project 21:
(1) Eat in Moderation
(2) No Carbonated Drinks (Sodas)
(3) Drink 8 Glasses of Water per Day
(4) Eat Fruits and Leafy Green Vegetables
(5) Lessen Intake of Fried, Greasy, and Junk Foods
(6) 20 – 30 Minutes of Daily Exercise
(7) Get at least 8 hours of Sleep per Day (This one’s hard, but try your best!)

(You do not have to do all of these. Just give up one unhealthy habit for twenty-one days!)
